Michaelina Wautier, a 17th-century artist, is regarded as one of the most exciting art historical rediscoveries of recent decades. This exhibition brings together nearly her entire body of work for the first time, placing it in dialogue with masters such as Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony van Dyck.
At a time when women artists were largely confined to still life or genre painting, Wautier also gained recognition for her ambitious history paintings. The exhibition highlights a contemporary female perspective on both traditional and innovative subjects – including the representation of the male body.
